Coming up with family Halloween costumes is fun, but can be difficult. Especially, if you want everyone to be apart of the same theme. Here are some ideas I have like or even personally done with my family. If you want to checkout all of my family Halloween costume ideas, you can see them HERE.
Toy Story. Bring the whole family to life as everyone’s favorite Toy Story characters! Character ideas include Woody and Bo Peep, Jessie and Buzz Lightyear, or even Andy’s parents, Rex, Slinky Dog, Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head, and Forky. This is such a fun family costume because there are tons of recognizable characters, making it easy to include everyone—even little ones.
Zoo Animals. Turn Halloween into a family trip to the zoo with an adorable group of animal costumes! Mom and Dad could be a zookeepers or veterinarians while the kids dress as their favorite animals like lions, monkeys, zebras, giraffes, or elephants. This idea is especially fun for families with younger kids because there are endless animal options and everyone can choose a costume they love.
Bluey. A Bluey family costume is perfect for little ones who can’t get enough of the Heeler family! Mom and Dad can be Chilli and Bandit, while the kids can dress as Bluey, Bingo, Muffin, or another favorite character. It’s an easy theme for the whole family and makes for some seriously cute Halloween pictures.
Grease. Go back to the ’50s with a fun Grease-inspired family costume! Mom and Dad can channel Sandy and Danny, while the kids can dress as members of the Pink Ladies, T-Birds, or other ’50s-inspired characters. This is a great option for families who want something a little different and love the classic movie’s retro style.
Shrek. Make Halloween a fairytale with a Shrek-themed family costume! Character options include Shrek, Fiona, Donkey, Lord Farquad, Puss in Boots, Gingy, or even another fairytale character. This is a fun choice because the characters are instantly recognizable and there are plenty of ways to make the costumes funny and creative.
Monsters, Inc. Let the family become the monsters of Halloween with a Monsters, Inc. theme! Mom and Dad could dress as Sulley and Mike Wazowski, while the kids can be Boo, another monster from Monstropolis, or even Randall. Or the kids could be Sulley and Mike, while Mom and Dan can be other monsters. The bright colors and silly characters make this a playful costume idea that works especially well for families with young kids.
Mario Kart. Start your engines for a Mario Kart family Halloween! Character options include Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, Yoshi, Toad, Daisy, and Wario. Plenty of options for everyone. Add little race cars, checkered flags, or racing accessories to make the whole family look like they’re ready for the ultimate Halloween Grand Prix.
Wizard of Oz. Follow the yellow brick road with a classic Wizard of Oz family costume! Mom and Dad could be Dorothy and the Scarecrow, Tin Man, Cowardly Lion, Glinda, or the Wizard, while the kids can dress as Munchkins or flying monkeys. With so many iconic characters, this theme can easily be customized to fit families of all sizes.
Scooby-Doo. Solve some Halloween mysteries together with a Scooby-Doo family costume! Parents can dress as Fred, Daphne, Velma, or Shaggy, while the kids can be Scooby-Doo or any of the Mystery Inc. gang. It’s a classic theme that’s easy to recognize and gives everyone a fun character to play.
The Flintstones. Take the family back to the Stone Age with a Flintstones costume theme! Mom and Dad can be Fred and Wilma Flintstone or Barney and Betty Rubble, while the kids can dress as Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm. With bright colors and instantly recognizable characters, this makes for a fun and nostalgic family costume.
Crayons. Turn your family into a colorful box of crayons! Each family member can choose a different crayon color, with Mom and Dad picking their favorite shades and the kids choosing bright colors like red, blue, pink, purple, or green. This is a simple and affordable costume idea that looks adorable in family photos and works for families of almost any size.
Under the Sea. Take the family under the sea for a colorful and creative Halloween theme! Mom and Dad could dress as King Triton and Ursula, other mermaids, while the kids can be Ariel, Flounder, Sebastian, a shark, or other ocean creatures. This theme gives everyone plenty of freedom to choose a costume while still creating a cohesive family look.
