As someone who is very mindful of their nutrition, I have always tried to find ways to add protein to my diet. Obviously the easiest way to consume protein is meat. However, even while I try to eat mostly whole foods, but I find myself coming up a little short. I started using Bowmar Nutrition protein years ago and haven’t looked back. With so many flavor options it is so versatile. Currently, my favorite is the double fudge brownie protein. By far my favorite protein powder I have ever had.

When I focus on adding protein to regular meals, I concentrate on incorporating protein into foods I already enjoy eating. This approach was also key for me. I especially tried to do this when I had kids. For example, my kids, like most, love pizza. So when we do “make your own pizza” night, instead of just a plain cheese pizza, I’ll added some cut up chicken sausage I know they like to eat as well.

The biggest thing for me was to keep it simple and add it to foods my kids already enjoy.

Here are some specific ways I add protein to our diets:

1. Pancakes/waffles – I have recently seen some “protein waffle” and “protein pancake” mixes at the store. However, sometimes those don’t always have the cleanest ingredients. So, what I started doing was adding a few eggs and greek yogurt. Depending on how much I am making is how much I use. I typically add the mix to the bowl, then the eggs and yogurt, begin to mix. Then add the liquid until the desired consistency. And it tastes great! For even more protein, you can add a scoop of protein and use less pancake/waffle mix as well!

2. Ninja Creami – I cannot recommend the Ninja Creami enough! In the summer I use it almost every day. What’s so awesome about it is that YOU can decide what to make with it. There are so many options. My personal favorite thing to do is make “protein ice cream”. My kids honestly have no idea it’s protein and there’s little to no sugar, depending on what you use.

My go to recipe is: ½ cup of whole milk,½ cup of water, 1½ scoop of Bowmar Nutrition double fudge brownie, and a sprinkle of Simple Mixes pudding mix

I mix in a shaker cup, freeze in a container for 24+ hours, then blend on “lite ice cream” mode. Depending on the consistency, it may need to be blended a little more on the “re-spin” setting. You can also add mix ins of your choosing!

3. Protein Coffee.  For years, I have added protein powder to my coffee. Again my favorite protein is from Bowmar Nutrition. I use hot or sometimes cold coffee, a splash of milk, and a scoop of protein powder. To me, it tastes similar to a mocha without all that sugar! Much better for you and cheaper than your average coffee run.

4. Cottage cheese and eggs. If you love scrambled eggs, you must try this! I scramble my eggs like normal, add anywhere from ½ – 1 full serving of cottage cheese to the pan, add my eggs and just let cook. It adds so much protein to the eggs, makes them creamier, and it tastes delicious! 10/10 recommend!

5. Greek yogurt bowls. Such an easy and delicious way to add in some protein that my kids love! It is also very versatile as you can add whatever toppings you want! My recent favorite combo: plain Greek yogurt base, topped with blueberries or blackberries, chia seeds, chocolate chips, and honey. Sometimes I even add some almond or peanut butter. I have also added protein to the yogurt by mixing about ½ a scoop with the yogurt first and then adding with the desired toppings. I can’t recommend this enough!
